Playoff Facts

It’s funny–the things Habs fans will believe based on emotion as opposed to reason and fact. Here are the facts.

  • The Bruins are 4-0-1 against Montreal this season, and
  • 2-1-1 against the New York Rangers.
  • Boston lost at Montreal 4-3 in a shootout on Oct. 15, and has since taken three straight from the team.
  • The Bruins pummeled the Habs 6-1 at TD Banknorth Garden on Nov. 13.
  • Then they beat the Canadiens in Montreal 3-2 in a shootout on Patrick Roy night on Nov. 22
  • Bruins won 3-1 at Boston on Jan. 13
  • Bruins then won 3-1 at Montreal on Feb. 1.

So yes, we’d like for the Bruins to meet the Canadiens in the first round this year.

How about future rounds? Well,

  • The Bruins are 1-2-1 against the Washington this season,
  • 2-1-1 against New Jersey,
  • 2-1-1 against Pittsburgh,
  • 2-1-1 against Philadelphia, and
  • 4-0-0 against Carolina.

So yes, apart from Carolina, Montreal will be our best bet. You can take that to the bank.
